Sleep

Okay, I am about to break every
"Mom cliche" code... right now.
Are you ready?

I'm actually not sure you are ready.
Like really, get really really ready for this
bomb I am about to drop on you.

........

I think - I actually get...
(whispers) more sleep now that I have a baby.

WHATSHESAY????

Okay - see. I told you! This blog isn't a space
where I am going to complain about being a Mom,
or about parenthood.  Mainly because, I am having the time of my life.

But seriously - I think I get more sleep.
Other Moms - please don't hate me for saying this.
Future Moms - rejoice because sometimes it happens!

People always ask me "how are you sleeping?"
with this sad look of sympathy on their face.
And I generally lie - like, "oh yah, wow - yowza. No sleep!
I'm a walking zombie these days... yikes!"

(fyi - if I say "yowza" to you, I am most definitely lying right to your face.)

But in all reality - I sleep more, and better!
Gone are the days (for now) of stressful nights of sleeping because
of a work issue.
Gone are the days of alarm clocks (I just realized I haven't set my alarm clock
since the middle of August!)

I know I am very fortunate that my baby sleeps through the night.
No, he didn't always. But when I did have to get up,
I actually enjoyed the quiet "us" time.
And sometimes he gets up in the middle of the night now.
I'm not trying to say that every night is perfection.

But I enjoy getting up now - which in turn lets me sleep better.

And even as I write this - I feel guilty.
Being a Mom is weird - it's like everyone wants you to have a good baby,
but if you actually do, you're supposed to pretend it's super hard.

Either way - I'm saying it loudly and proudly,
I sleep better.

Sweet Dreams

Magners Pear Cider

So, it turns out that when it's St. Patrick's Day week,
I don't drink wine, and I stick to
cider and beer.

This is just a sampling of what our recycling looked like today:

A cornucopia of delicious Irish brew.

Today's Pick
Magners Pear Cider

The only cider I ever drank before I went abroad
was Strongbow (or as I like to call it now, Grossbow.
Nope, never actually called it that.)
I thought it was the greatest thing ever!

And then I went to Ireland and Scotland,
and my tastebuds were opened up to the most delicious nectar
ever created - cider.

Cider's are so good - perfect for both the beer lover and the beer hater.
It's like this perfect little balance of tastiness dancing on your tongue.

It's good to sip - good with food - good for anything!
Magners Pear is my personal favourite, (of the cider's you can get here
in Ontario... so far that I've tried).

If you ever want a wine break, but aren't sure beer is your thing,
try a cider - you won't be disappointed!

I hope everyone had an amazing St. Paddy's day!
I wasn't pregnant this year - so mine was fantastic!!
And look at this little bundle of Irish lovin' -

All of my dreams came true in this picture!

Cheers!

Open

Today's Pick

Open - Riesling/Gewurztraminer Blend

This is one of my top 3 favourite bottles of white to date.
I don't really like Riesling's on their own,
but I have yet to find a Riesling/Gewurzt blend I dislike.

Open is the best one I've tried so far.
A little on the pricey side - I think it's about $12/bottle,
but it's worth every hard earned penny.

And seriously - one of the best words in my vocabulary is
Gewurztraminer.

I say it like this:
guh-whurs-trugh-meener.

Try a bottle - you can dye it green for St. Pat's!

DIY Caesar Salad Dressing

One of my New Year's resolutions was to cook more.

And I'm excited to say that half way through March,
I'm actually sticking to it and cooking more!

Maybe me being home on a consistent basis,
and not having an "outside" job has something to do with it,
but I am rather good at it, and I for real enjoy it.

Something I am in to BIG TIME at the moment is
DIY Salad Dressings.
I never want to buy store bought salad dressing again,
and you shouldn't either!

I made a fantastic Caesar dressing this past weekend -
ohemgee - YUM.
"Best Caesar dressing I've ever had!" - Bombshell's Husband

So easy, so quick, so delish.
Ingredients:
Real Mayonaise (Miracle Whip just won't do in this case)
Lemon Juice (I always use freshly squeezed)
Garlic
Pepper
Parmesan Cheese

So, I just took a cup of mayo,
squeezed a half lemon into it,
minced 3 cloves of garlic,
turned my pepper mill a few times,
grated a titch of parm...
and stirred.

That's about it - and it was really really tasty.

Give it a try, it won't disappoint!

And you'll be wondering why you were ever buying the
store bought dressing
(with delicious ingredients like xanthan gum,
frozen egg yolk, water, and fish seasonings... wtf is fish seasonings?)

Now I just need to start making my own croutons.

Black Cellar - Blend 19

Yay, my new favourite day of the week!

Today's Pick

Black Cellar - Blend 19
Shiraz/Cabernet Blend

The most deliciously sippable red I've had in a long time,
this red has been my "go to" for about a month.
The best part of it is that it's been on sale for
only $8.95 for like, weeks, making it impossible
to pass up when I go to the store.
I sorted out my recycling today and there were...
4 bottles of Black Cellar.
Don't judge me, just do yourself a favour & buy a bottle.

Where you'll find it:
It'll be right along with all the other red beauties
in the Ontario section.

I hope you enjoy a winetastic weekend!

Cliche

Am I a good friend?
Am I a good stranger?
Am I a good wife, mother, child?

Do you like me?
Do I like you? Is it okay if I don't?
I think about you guys all the time.
Are you making a mistake?
Am I making a mistake thinking about your mistakes?

Who am I.
It's so cliche to ask, but damn - who am I?
I'm one way here, and another way out there,
I think I'm authentic, but maybe I'm just plastic.
Versions of what I think people want from me.

I make friends, I lose friends -
do I really have any friends?
Yes, I do. And they love me and I love them.
Good times, bad times - we've seen all kinds of times.
Thank you.

I wear my heart on my sleeve,
it bleeds all over my sweater it's so out there.
I'll tell you what I'm feeling -
sometimes I don't care how it makes you feel.
Don't ask if you don't want to know.

Am I a good friend?
Am I a good stranger?
Am I a good wife, mother, child?

I wish I could be so many other people.
You're smart.
You're beautiful.
You're interesting.
You're cute.
But I can pretend I'm all of these things too,
right? Wrong, I'm never cute.
Or am I?

My brain is going a hundred miles a minute.
I think about it all too much, way too much.
I need to refocus, reshift, regroup.
Hello there.
